What is the difference between an energy-saving lamp and LED lamp?

led lamp

You already provided energy-saving lamps for your entire house years ago. At that time, the energy-saving lamp was an affordable alternative to LED. The energy-saving lamp was also seen as environmentally friendly and uses less energy compared to incandescent lamps. Since a few years, the energy-saving lamp has a formidable competitor and that is the LED lamp. But what is the difference between an energy-saving lamp and LED lamp?

Warm uptime

The big difference between the energy-saving lamp and the LED lamp is the start-up time. If the lamp is cold, it can take up to 60 seconds before the lamp is at full power. If it is cold in a room, it can take longer. Sometimes it even happens that the lamp never fully lights up under cold conditions. A big difference is the LED lamp. The lamp does not have to start up and is immediately 100% at full power.

Dimming

Energy-saving lamps are very difficult to dim, even if you have an official energy-efficient dimmer. The standard energy-saving lamp is not dimmable. The LED lighting is dimmable but must be connected to a special dimmer switch. There are exceptions where an LED lamp can be connected to a normal dimmer. If you manage to dim a low-energy light bulb, it will usually flicker.

UV light

The energy-saving lamp emits standard UV light. This light is bad for the skin and can cause skin cancer even with prolonged exposure. However, the amount of light from an energy-saving lamp will not cause cancer, but the risk is present. Especially if you already have sensitive skin. In addition, UV radiation can cause colors to look different. For example, if you are going to light a painting, you better use an LED lamp than an energy-saving lamp. The colors of the painting come out much nicer with LED. Furthermore, it does not lose any color in the long term
